THE POSITION The Senior Comprehensive Care Nurse I works under the direction of the CSU Supervising Comprehensive Care Nurse and provides clinical and supervisory oversight of the designated shift handles complex referrals and or community complaints ensures consistent application of policies procedures and protocols initiates special incident reports and keeps the supervisor informed of shift needs and challenges. The position also provides orientation and training to new staff and direct services to clients.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provides routine and emergency nursing services and monitors delivery of care by staff to ensure high quality of care and effective nursing operations Acts as a resource for staff and disseminates information to ensure staff consistently apply the policies procedures and protocols as directed Keeps supervisor apprised of shift needs and status of operations Completes documentation on all services provided including Initiating Special Incident Report (SIR) and or Injury Illness Reporting as necessary Provides leadership in quality improvement activities and participates in various audits Provides direct services to clients including performing mental assessment administering treatments drugs and medicines within the standardized procedures and providing crisis intervention education and support Explains County programs and procedures to families law enforcement emergency room personnel and mental health providers DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate will have two years of experience working as a Registered Nurse with at least one of those years working with adult psychiatric clients in an acute setting and supervising nursing personnel. He she will also have a valid American Heart Association health care provider CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certification. Bilingual skills especially Spanish are also desirable for this position. The successful candidate will also have knowledge skills and abilities which would demonstrate the following competencies Technical Knowledge Experience Knowledge of principles and procedures of routine and emergency nursing care as applied to the psychiatric population Knowledge of sociological psychological and physiological factors involved in providing nursing to mentally ill Knowledge of laws and regulations related to treating persons with mental illness Knowledge of principles and techniques of physical containment Experience working with people with behavioral mental health conditions and understanding mental health issues Proficiency in MS Programs such as Excel Word and Outlook Leadership Supervision Knowledge of principles and techniques of effective supervision Trains motivates and evaluates performance of staff Guides and directs staff toward meeting business objectives Promotes and supports ethical and professional standards in the workplace Quality Improvement Identifies areas of improvement and recommends solutions to improve quality Demonstrates ability to collect data for accurate documentation of services and preparing reports Pays close attention to detail in completing progress notes and records Communication Skills Presents information effectively and clearly in both oral and written forms of communication Communicates effectively with staff medical professionals and the public Effectively uses technology to facilitate communication Interpersonal Skills Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with peers supervisors managers and health team members Works collaboratively with staff and medical professionals to facilitate and coordinate services to clients Functions in accordance with established protocols MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Please for the minimum qualifications information for Senior Comprehensive Care Nurse I and details on this classification.
