In 1950 and 1951 you could hear Hank Williams on WSM every morning at 7 15 singing and selling Mother s Best Flour. During the 15 minute shows Hank and the announcer Louie Buck would pitch the flour in between Hank s songs. There are 70 shows on this disc - 17 hours of Hank singing and talking. Hank sings around 140 songs in all. And the joking with the Drifting Cowboys and the announcer are great fun to listen to. The shows have a good sound too. It s an MP3 disc. It can be played on your DVD player or computer and in your car player if it has MP3 capability. Perhaps the most sought after collection of Hank Williams are the Mother s Best radio shows. This collection of radio shows is considered by many to be Hank s best work and were done at the peak of his career in 1950 and 1951. The shows were broadcast live between 7 15 and 7 30 a.m. on WSM out of Nashville Tennessee. Hank was paid 100 a week for recording the shows. The Mother s Best Shows capture Hank s personality better than anything else known to exist and they don t paint the picture of a sad lonesome man as many books portray him.
