Advisory Electrical Design Engineer

Location Gamma Dr. Pittsburgh PA Department 3230 Hardware DevelopmentDescription Lead Electrical Engineer responsible for the design debug support and tracking of electrical hardware features implemented in the LifeVest system. Additional responsibilities include the technical supervision of junior engineers and technicians development and maintenance of hardware documentation coordination of outside resources aiding in hardware schedule development and providing technical support to other departments within the organization. This is a lead engineering position that will work under general direction. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Experienced Electrical Engineer on a team working on research development and sustaining projects. Develops design criteria and provides technical electrical engineering advice on new products concepts and projects. Develops technical designs and specifications for products. Aids in making hardware architecture decisions. Conducts design studies for future generation products. Supports engineering and other departments on sustaining activities. Conducts root cause failure analysis on devices. Aids in the coordination of outside resources. Scopes out work resources and time required to complete projects. Identifies and recommends efficiency improvements and schedule risk mitigations. Acts as a technical point of contact for engineering project managers and other departments. Provides technical advice to junior employees acting in a lead capacity. Works under general direction with an expectation of minimal error rates. Performs other duties as assigned by management. Supervisory Responsibilities No direct reports however general guidance technical supervision compliance and quality reviews and initial performance review write-ups of junior engineers and technicians is required. Required Education and Experience BS MS degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. 10 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficient in electrical hardware design troubleshooting and testing. Technical experience in at least a subset of the following areas High precision analog EMC EMI High voltage high current defibrillation circuitry Digital On-board IC-based power supplies Sensors Printed circuit boards Wireless communication Firmware Hardware Software integration Experience with coordinating outside design resources. Demonstrated communication skills both verbal and written. Demonstrated ability to complete product designs from the requirements phase to production. Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This position may be available at different career levels depending on experience education etc. Preferred Experience Medical devices Handheld or wearable devices Regulatory compliance standards Understanding of mechanical design Understanding of software design and troubleshooting Understanding of systems engineering processes Proficient in the use of general engineering lab equipment including soldering stations oscilloscopes waveform generators spectrum analyzers network analyzers multimeters power supplies etc. Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers clients and other employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems and make appropriate judgment calls to insure the correct outcome. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
