Desperately Needs Duke Universitys Help My fiance is only 28 yrs old and 3 yrs ago he was diagnosed Systemic Lupus. We have been in and out of hospitals for the past three years because he keeps going through complications. Recently he was diagnosed with a very rare Mitochondrial disease called MELAS. The doctors are saying that he needs to go to Duke because there are no cures but Duke conducts research for rare diseases.
