GEM Engineering Inc. is looking for a Construction Technician. Resumes can be emailed to gemasst(at)gemeng.com Job Summary Observe test and document construction materials (e.g. concrete soil steel etc.) and methods (e.g. fill compaction masonry construction pile installation etc.) to confirm compliance with approved plans and specification and industry standards. Confer with supervisorypersonnel contractors and design professionals to discuss matters such as procedures test results non-compliant construction details and remdiation. Work safely independently accurately and productively in the field while keeping in regular contact with Project and Departmental Managers. Actively participate in training to enhance safe working practices and techincal knowledge. Key Functions Sample and test plastic concrete for slump temperature and air content. Prepare specimens for laboratory testing. Transport specimens to the GEM laboratory and log them in to the system for testing. Evaluate foundation bearing soils using various methods including Dynamic DCone Penetrometer probe rod hand auger etc. Perform field density and moisture testing of compacted fill using nuclear sand cone and drive tube. Perform laboratory testing on concrete soil and other construction materials as needed under supervious of laboratory personnel. Read and understand project plans and specifications to determine test requirements locations and other pertinent information. Recognize when situations require immediate contact with Project Manager. Observe and document that concrete stell reinformcement is installed in accordance with project plans and specifications. Work with Project Managers to prioritize schedule and complete all field work. Complete all paperwork field reports test records clearing and competently per Project Manager s directions. Maintain equipment in good condition including making minor repairs as necessary. Qualifications Education High School Diploma or equivalent Ability to quickly and accurately complete mathematical calculation of test reults Good writing skills and verbal communication skills Working knowledge of and basic proficiency with computers smart phones email etc. Ability to postively interact and communicate with individuals in all levels of construction. Ability to deal with others in an antagonistic situation. Ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety GEM does not supply vehicles. Candidates must be able to provide a vehicle (truck or SUV) suitable for transporting materials and equipment (including a wheelbarror) to from and on construction sites.
