Creating a Justice League How to Foster Youth Resilience and Positive Identity Development Training Workshop About This Workshop This workshop is designed to introduce youth workers social welfare and mental health providers the foundations of youth resilience within the context of a trauma-informed care model. The training will describe and provide guidance on practices that foster resilience distress tolerance and emotion regulations among youth as part of prevention and early intervention efforts. In conjunction with Prevention and Interventions for Bullying Creating a Climate of Safety Tolerance and Trust training the SAFE group-based intervention model is revisited as a series of engaging educational activities that attends to emotional intelligence social skills and communication skills. This session moves beyond bullying and addresses identity self-awareness sense of self and the other. To address the macro-level model on building resilient communities this training addresses the concepts of community and staff self-care burnout and compassion fatigue.This workshop is aimed towards a diverse audience including administrators staff supervisors educators child welfare workers youth behavioral specialists and counselors. Furthermore resilience practices for vulnerable young adults in transitional development will be described (including examples for under-served underrepresented students and college-bound first-generation students). In order to engage and teach basic and practical bullying intervention and resilience building strategies a strong use of pop culture themes narratives and images will be employed. Learning Objectives Define the concept of personal resilienceName at least 3 strategies that can promote self-sufficiency or self-advocacy for transitional age youth.Identify at least 3 self-care strategies relevant to community members in behavioral health settings.Identify at least one structural systemic or personal barrier to self-care practice among community and staff members.
