Veterinary Lab Manager - Bacteriology Mycology and Media Prepara

This position supervises the technical staff of the Bacteriology Mycology and Media Preparation laboratories trains new technicians and veterinary student workers orders supplies updates procedure manuals and is responsible for laboratory results and reports. Other duties include Assisting laboratory technician duties involved in the isolation and identification of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria mycoplasma mycobacterium actinomycetes and leptospira from tissues exudates swabs etc. from diseased animals and birds. Reporting bacteriology results as directed by the Veterinary Microbiologist responsible for entry of results on computer and into epidemiology file. Developing new diagnostic tests procedures or conduct trials or surveys as directed by the Veterinary Microbiologist. Occasional unpleasant odors. Specimens submitted may contain microorganisms that are transmissible from animal to man. Minimum qualifications Master s degree in Microbiology Biology or science related field and two years experience in a microbiology laboratory or closely related area is needed along with a demonstrated potential for leadership. CEM Certification - Must be completed at NVSL as soon as possible (contingent on when offered). Desire and aptitude to supervise and teach or demonstrate technical skills along with a sincere interest in laboratory bench work are essential. Preferred qualifications D.V.M.
