Lighthouse Collectable - Buffalo Main Light - Danbury Mint - NEW

New York This tower is located directly across from the Erie Basin Marina underneath the Skyway in downtown Buffalo. However the first lighthouse to be built at this point dates back 1818 and stood only thirty feet tall. With Congress designating the Village of Buffalo as a port of entry in the early 1800s and the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825 Buffalo was one of the busiest ports in the world. Not soon after that the true ineffectiveness of the 1818 light truly became known. The current tower in the picture at the right was completed in 1833. By the 1870s the harbor at Buffalo had grown in size due to a new break-wall. With this breakwall came an outer harbor lighthouse as well. This led to the diminished importance of the Main Light. Certificate of Authenticity from Danbury Mint included - 5 3 4 tall Contact tibbs839(at)aol.com
