Veterinary Laboratory Manager &ndash Serology

Position responsible for the supervision of the technical staff in the Serology Laboratoy and consultation with the professional staff. Also responsible for performing specific serologic tests including maintenance of quality control procedures and coordination of testing efforts with the National Veterinary Services Laboratory (NVSL) on the regulatory and check tests with emphasis to maintain USDA AAVLD accreditation. Other duties of the position include collecting and providing serology related information and overseeing the serology inventory and ordering supplies. Occasional unpleasant odors due to poor sample condition and dead animals. If equipment not operated or maintained properly could be hazardous. Also potential exposure to biologic hazards psittacosis brucella leptospirosis rabies and encephalitis etc. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor s Degree. Microbiology biochemistry or biology. Two years of related work experience required in an animal health laboratory. Type experience required Experience with similar testing procedures in an accredited laboratory. Managerial skills. Cell culture sterile techniques. Immunologic techniques. Working knowledge of serologic techniques. Personnel skills Organizational skills Managerial and personnel skills Technical laboratory skills Knowledge of immunology and serologic procedures Computer skills. Preferred Master s Microbiology biochemistry or biology. One year of related work experience required in an animal health laboratory.
