The purpose of this position is to perform systems analysis and design determine application systems and programming specifications write and test the required computer programs write documentation plan and conduct training and provide on-going maintenance and support of the University s campus-wide Banner Information System the university portal the university operational data store the university enterprise data warehouse and other related systems the university needs to conduct its business. Responsibilities include assisting users in analyzing their needs determining user requirements and technical specifications for projects and systems managing project implementations to ensure the successful delivery of systems and services to the campus community ensuring that each individual system and project they design and implement integrates into the overall campus information system maintaining existing systems and applications and providing user support for Banner the portal and related information systems. This position requires a wide-ranging solid knowledge of the Ellucian Banner Information System Ellucian Operational data store Ellucian Enterprise Data Warehouse Ellucian Luminis portal and Oracle database strong programming and analytical skills project management skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members department members faculty and administrators. The person in this position is responsible for recommending solutions that are technically sound and meet the needs of the campus community. This job requires a flexible work schedule as systems implementation maintenance and support must sometimes happen after normal business hours and on weekends. Minimum Qualifications BA or BS degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Science (or four years of each of the following two requirements) Minimum of 3 years systems analysis and design experience. Minimum of 3 years programming and relational database experience with at least 1 year in SQL. Preferred Qualifications 5 years systems analysis and design experience. 5 years programming experience with at least 3 years using Oracle. 3 years Banner experience. 3 years Groovy & Grails and or Java programming experience. 2 years Luminis experience. Experience with Linux Cognos XML HTML5 CSS and designing system interfaces or other systems integration experience. Duties Systems Analysis Design Programming Documentation The person in this position works on programming and upgrade projects that require project management coordination with other departments systems analysis design programming documentation and meeting deadlines. Project Management Identify resources and steps needed for project completion develop project plan in consultation with appropriate participants which includes defining project goals and objectives specifying tasks or how goals will be achieved what resources are needed and associating timelines for completion initiate project and coordinate steps to ensure participation of appropriate individuals and groups monitor project status to ensure project requirements and deadlines are met. Analysis Analyze user system and application needs determine and evaluate alternative solutions and approaches to meeting those needs and select the optimal technology solution. Consult with users to identify and document software system purpose work flow issues output needs and to determine the overall functional and technical system requirements and specifications. Design Design application programs to meet user requirements that optimize the use of available resources. Develop program specifications and review them with the user to ensure that requirements are met consult with manager team members other institutions and vendors as needed. Design effective and efficient interfaces to system. Programming Develop succinct timely programming code or modify software in a logical fashion which optimizes programming resources. Write code to meet user specifications. Use productivity tools to develop and modify applications software to meet user needs. Work with users to test and debug programs prior to delivery of software. Verify data accuracy and output media and format. Modify existing or third party software. Documentation Write documentation to provide user support for new or modified programs and production operation procedures. System Administration Perform basic system administration functions as needed for Banner and Banner-related systems including creating profiles and accounts some installation configuration upgrades and scripting to automate or simplify tasks. User Support and Training Provide problem resolution to users by answering helpdesk calls in respectful courteous and timely manner monitoring error logs resolving production and or data problems and participating in system emergencies. Help desk calls should be given a high priority and responded to in accordance with the service level agreements and team standards. System emergencies should be given the highest priority and responded to immediately. If resolution is not possible within appropriate time frame problem should be escalated appropriately by contacting the software vendor OSU IS Manager or other personnel or by entering request for programming services. Provide one-on-one training to users when needed as part of programming projects. Develop and teach departmental training courses for university staff each term. Professional Development and Miscellaneous Serve on Banner User Group committee. Stay current and increase skill level in technical and professional areas through reviewing current literature technical documentation and attending appropriate workshops seminars and conferences. Serve on other committees as needed. These include search committees and project committees. Periodically coordinate student worker assignments for specific projects. Other duties as assigned.
