Aquatics Manager Needed for Ridgewood YWCA

The YWCA of Bergen County is seeking an Aquatics Manager for our Ridgewood location Reporting to the Director of Fitness and Aquatics The Aquatics Manager is responsible for managing the day to day business of the Aquatics Department including the leadership and administration of all programs and services provided such as Therapeutics Special Swim. The incumbent will manage the staff and programming offered by the Aquatic Department at all YWCA programming sites ensuring that department and organization standards are being upheld by instructors and lifeguards. The Aquatics Manager will be expected to exhibit personal and professional behavior in a manner consistent with the best interest of the YWCA and regularly assess the needs of the aquatics department making any appropriate recommendations. The manager will be expected to attend YWCA events in addition to recommended training and educational courses designed to enhance YWCA programs. They will instruct and substitute when necessary in the following areas Aquatics Programs Lifeguard Training Courses Lifeguarding Therapeutic Aquatic Instruction and Special Swim. Key Responsibilities Supervise staff of 60 part-time employees in the summer and 30 staff throughout the year Remain current with trends of aquatic programming and developing programs to meet the needs of members at respective sites. This includes assisting in new business development including planning and implementing new ideas in the department. Maintain awareness of costs tied to department operations and be prepared to assist in developing and monitoring aquatic budget Act as liaison to the American Red Cross and implements respective processes and protocols mandated by the organization to ensure the YWCA is in compliance. Maintains records and programming for participants enrolled in these courses. Responsible for scheduling all American Red Cross Lifeguard courses and scheduling LGTI s. Assume complete ownership over Lifeguard coverage from opening to close (5 00am-10 30pm) being the primary point of contact for coverage related emergencies Partner with Director in recruiting onboarding training and scheduling of instructors and lifeguard staff including evaluating performance on a regular basis to maintain standards of quality. Maintain quality of aquatic programming to include oversight of classes proper student to instructor ratio and skill levels for students. Responsible for monthly in-service trainings for aquatic staff. Assure the safety of program s equipment and facilities are in compliance with risk management codes. This includes providing for the health safety and comfort of program participants. In the absence of the Director of Fitness & Aquatics assumes supervisory responsibilities for the Department. Assist in working with the YMCA staff in pool scheduling and activity coordination. Perform other job related duties as deemed necessary by the Director of Fitness & Aquatics including administrative duties. Therapeutics Department Hands on in assisting with the Special Swim Programs Partner with Therapeutics Manager to manage all program activities including coordinating volunteers staff and participants Qualifications Education Experience Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in managing staff in addition to teaching and supervising a wide range of aquatic programs for all age groups and skill levels. Bachelor s degree in Physical Education Recreation related field or equivalent work experience is a plus Licensing and or Certifications American Red Cross LGT WSI Waterfront Lifeguard Training CPR First Aid AED O2 CPO (Certified Pool Operator) LGT Instructor certifications. Must be prepared to present current certifications. Knowledge Knowledge of swim levels to place participants in skill appropriate level American Red Cross procedures Skills and Abilities Demonstrated team building and interpersonal skills and ability to work with a multigenerational staff and client base. Ability to work independently problem solve and make independent decisions. Proven organizational skills and ability to multitask and prioritize. Excellent communication skills (written verbal and listening). Capacity to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations and determine proper course of action. Physical Requirements Swim walk stand climbing stooping and keeling. This position requires the individual to be a strong swimmer as they oversee lifeguards and may have to assist in case of drowning or other medical emergencies. Travel The amount of travel between the Ridgewood site (112 Oak Street) and all office and programming sites of the YWCA Bergen County is expected to be 20% in the summer and 10% throughout the year Accountability Off-site The off-site management responsibilities of this position are contingent on the business needs of the organization. This position requires flexibility in work schedule to include evenings and weekends.
