We are looking for behavioral health professionals (full time and part time) to join our busy staff. The Behavioral Health Substance Abuse Therapist will act as part of the primary care treatment team identifying triggers and managing patients with medical substance abuse and behavioral health problems within the primary care setting. In addition the Behavioral Health Substance Abuse Therapist will provide skill training through psycho-education and patient education strategies and will develop specific behavioral change plans for patients. The Behavioral Health Substance Abuse Therapist will provide counseling and support to individuals and families experiencing addictions. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Provide drug and alcohol counseling and support to individuals families and groups in the community Provide community education and support as requested Assist primary health care providers in recognizing and treating mental disorders substance abuse and psychosocial problems. Assess the clinical and chemical status of patients referred by primary care providers through brief consultative contacts. Work with primary care team to treat and manage patients with substance abuse issues chronic emotional and or health problems efficiently and effectively refer cases to mental health specialists as appropriate. Assist in the detection of at risk patients and development of plans to prevent further chemical psychological or physical deterioration. Assist in preventing relapse or morbidity in conditions that tend to recur over time. Teach care prevention and treatment enhancement techniques to patients families and staff. Attend and participate in meetings and Quality Improvement activities as required. Serve as a member of site committees as requested. Other duties as assigned. The incumbent must Enjoy working in a faced paced environment Be willing to abide by the mission of Charles Drew Health Center Exhibit strong professionalism skills Exhibit strong customer service skills Work as a team member Be willing to attend meetings and other Charles Drew Health Center related activities WE REQUIRE Education Master s Degree Licensure Licensed as a Mental Health Therapist in the State of Nebraska (LIMPH or LMPH) and licensed as a drug and alcohol counselor Experience Experience working in a primary care setting Expertise Working knowledge of evidence-based treatments for mental health conditions and chemical dependency. Ability to make quick and accurate clinical assessments of substance abuse mental and behavioral conditions. High level of comfort in working with primary care medical providers using a consultative style. Ability to work through brief patient contacts including via telephone and teleconferencing. Good knowledge of psycho-pharmacology. Ability to design and implement clinical pathways and protocols for treatment of selected mental chemical and behavioral conditions. Ability to design effective psycho-education curricula and lead effective psycho-education classes. Ability to train and teach effective behavioral health interventions and the primary behavioral health model to medical practitioners and other behavioral health providers. Ability to work effectively as a team interfacing with patients primary care providers consulting psychiatrist and mental health specialists as well as with administrative and support staff. Ability to effectively represent CDHC s interests in the community and maintain effective working relationships among co-workers public private and professional groups. Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations.
