Kiln (Boise bench)

This is a very old (more than 50yrs old) kiln with creepy looking wiring that doesn t quite get up to low fire temperature. I took it in to the Potters Center and was told that I could buy new coils (a set of skutt 11 diameter stretched a bit) for 60 and it should be able to fire anything. It s approx 12x12x12 120 volt 20 amp and has a plug that fits most household outlets. I ve used it a few times and it turns out hard ceramic tough pieces after about ten hrs in the kiln (old heating coils) but just can t quite melt the glazes well enough for them to look smooth.
