CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT Instructor Substitute SG-NS LOCATION Batavia SALARY 15.00 - 31.29 hour (depending on qualifications) The New York State Education Department s School for the Blind is seeking to fill an Instructor Substitute position. Duties of the positions will include but not be limited to Providing instruction to students in the absence of the instructor. Following emergency plans provided by the instructor. Following Individualized Education Plans for students. Completing necessary daily progress reports for students. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Candidates must have a Bachelor s degree or higher and a valid NYS Teaching Certificate. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Special consideration will be given to candidates with the following qualifications NYS Teacher Certification in Special Education. Certification as a Teacher of the visually impaired with evidence of specialized training in working with developmentally delayed blind sensory impaired children and demonstrated ability to work as a member of an educational team. Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting of children and to participate in physical activities such as swimming. Experience and training in the areas of behavior modification orientation and mobility sign language and or Braille. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT This will be a temporary hourly position. Fingerprinting through the Department of Criminal Justice Services a background check with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List are required for employment. Instructor substitutes are notified by phone when services are needed and every effort is made to give 24 hour advance notice. APPLICATION Applications are accepted on a continuous basis.
