Volunteer --- Veterans Case Worker

Volunteer Position Galveston County is seeking a savvy and energetic Part Time Volunteer to work with local Veterans. We are changing the face of Galveston County. Are you ready for the challenge Veterans Treatment Court Case Manager General Description The Veterans Court Volunteer Case Manager will be responsible for maintaining awareness of all Veterans in the program and helping them to understand and use the resources available to them. (medical substance use financial mental health housing legal vocational transportation family needs etc.) Qualifications Veteran status required Clear communicator (both verbal and written) 2 yrs experience working or volunteering as a case worker advocate or mentor in veterans services human services or similar function is required. Prefer some experience working with one or more of the following veterans individuals experiencing homelessness mental health related issues substance abuse domestic violence and those living in poverty. Positive attitude self-motivation organization and resourcefulness Ability to negotiate different personalities and work under competing priorities. Ability to assess emergency situations and respond effectively. The successful candidate must be able to pass a background check as per va requirements. Duties Responsibilities Must attend Weekly Court Sessions Will demonstrate professional development by participating in and seeking out higher-level innovative training opportunities including those provided by the national association of drug court professionals (NADCP). Communicates weekly with each Veteran and facilitate weekly monthly meetings to review program requirements discuss concerns & ideas and provide updates on new activities. Works directly with Veteran clients in identifying barriers to self-sufficiency and developing goals and objectives for overcoming these barriers through a Needs Assessment process. Identifies strengths and needs and makes referrals to available VA and community resources to meet those needs. May be requested to retrieve enter relevant data into SharePoint Odyssey and or other electronic data tracking programs as well as case notes within client files. Coordinates with Veteran s treatment court staff VA Staff and any other service provider working to meet the needs of Veterans. Links to community resources for integration purposes socialization recreation education occupation and vocational needs of Veterans served. Provides crisis intervention when needed. Responds to inquiries phone calls and e-mail in a timely and responsive manner. Attends bi-monthly VTC Staff meetings and provides a verbal status report on each veteran participant.
