The Casio SK-1 is a small sampling keyboard released in 1985. It is the world s least expensive sampler. It has 32 mid-sized keys a four-note polyphonic synthesizer with a sampling bit depth of 8 bit PCM and a sample rate of 9.38 kHz giving 1.4 seconds holding only one sample at a time. It has a built-in microphone 1 4 microphone and 3.5mm line level inputs for sampling a built-in 3 speaker and a 3.5mm headphones output jack. It features 8 four-note polyphonic preset analog and digital instrument voices and a simple additive voice 11 drum patterns with adjustable tempo and fill-in and chord accompaniment. All voices may be shaped by 13 preset envelopes portamento and vibrato. It also includes a rudimentary sequence recorder and playback. The SK-1 was thus an unusually full-featured synth in the sub- 100 home keyboard market of the time. Alas its memory clears when turned off. It uses 5 AA batteries or an (optional) 7.5V AC adapter. It s extremely portable easy to play the sampling is fun and although it was aimed at the home amateur musician its capabilities make it useful to professional musicians too. As inexpensive as it is and with the built-in sampling the SK-1 is a great candidate for circuit-bending It is used by Fatboy Slim Beck Autechre Portishead Bloodhound Gang Nine Inch Nails Incubus and Blur. Currently (July 2014) listed on Amazon is one as low as 80 (missing parts worn) others are priced from 150-300 depending on condition and accessories. Listings on eBay start at 50-60 (missing parts broken keys worn etc) units in fair good condition at 100-140 and 160-200 (excellent condition complete with manual AC adapter cables and original box.) This one is in great physical condition no scratches cracks or other damage clean with only very minor signs of wear and has the original battery cover (often missing.) All features effects sliders and buttons work perfectly. It also includes a copy of the 40-page Owner s Manual AND the Factory Service Manual with circuitry schematics (for those who might want to mod.) I do not have the original box or an AC adapter - I ve always used rechargeable batteries. I really hate to part with mine as it s provided me so many years of enjoyment but at the moment I need the money so I am selling it for 125. I m in Orlando FL.
