For 1965 Chevrolet s full sized Impala received all new styling. Chevy s new big car was both elegant and sporty by design. All GM full sized cars switched from the 50 s-style X-member frames to the so-called full-perimeter frame which provided superior structural strength and better supported the large new bodies providing a much more quiet and comfortable ride. A large range of engine choices remained with up to 10 options available including the ever famous 409 . History shows that Chevrolet had done it again and sold more cars than ever before with more than 2.4 million cars sold making 1965 the best yet of the decade and the 1965 Chevrolet Impala set an all-time industry sales record of more than a million units. Known History This particular Impala Sport Coupe was repainted in a high quality deep 2 pack red enamel in 2001 the interior was stripped and completely custom designed and re-trimmed by the owner s wife in black faux leather with grey accents. In addition to painting the Impala the owner removed all emblems shaved the door handles and added a power antenna. The current owner has had the Impala for over 12 years and believes the odometer shows a genuine 61 400 miles. Only 5000 miles have been added since the restoration. In 2002 the Impala s factory fitted 283 cu. in. engine was professionally rebuilt with a street performance Comp Cams cam Edelbrock intake manifold Holley carburetor and Holley Weiand Hi-Tek air cleaner ACCEL ignition system and Sanderson headers. A newer GM TH350 3-speed automatic transmission was installed the rear differential axles front suspension and brakes were re-built.
