University Fire Marshall

Incumbent will serve as the Fire Marshal at campuses within the system. Directs and oversees development implementation and maintenance of policies procedures and programs necessary to maintain a safe and healthy environment for faculty staff students patients customers and all visitors. Protects the University against losses and ensures all university organizations are in compliance with the applicable federal state and local codes and regulations. Serves as the Fire Marshal for all facilities of Oklahoma State University and the A& M Colleges during the development of plans and specifications for new construction or remodeling assuring fire protection and safety features as well as good construction practices meeting University and State standards. Assures compliance with rules and regulations governing fire and safety programs for the OSU System. Prioritizes activities to maximize the use of available resources and to minimize risk liability and adverse publicity to the University. Interacts and partners with individuals at all levels within the A & M system the general public numerous regulatory agencies and other similar universities to develop strategies to ensure OSU provides a safe and environmentally responsible place to work live educate and visit. Advises EHS Director in all matters pertaining to the above. On emergency call 24 hours per day 7 days per week. Due to communication expectations of the position the incumbent will be required to maintain a cellular or other electronic communication device. Minimum qualifications Bachelor degree in Engineering Fire Science Protection Construction or relevant discipline and five years of experience in fire protection engineering and large-scale construction projects which may include experience with any state county municipal federal military or industrial fire protection agency. Also requires ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. ability to supervise and train employees to include organizing prioritizing and scheduling work assignments strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community expert knowledge of NFPA Codes International Building and Fire Codes (IBC & IFC) and all state adopted building codes and arson investigation methods and procedures ability to read and interpret complex technical materials including construction documents and building plans and schematics computer skills to include operation and utilization of various software programs including MS Office ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from University personnel and others. Must pass post-employment physical exam and be physically capable of wearing personal protective equipment. Position requires standing and or walking for long periods of time stooping bending and climbing ladders. Must have the physical ability to access all levels of construction through use of construction equipment.
