Dear Community Members The community is invited attend a nationally recognized evidence-based sexual abuse prevention workshop called Darkness to light . This 2 hour workshop is designed to empower adults to protect children from sexual abuse. A video will highlight survivors of sexual abuse and each participant will receive a workbook with exercises and facts. Your workbook will hlep you look at the five steps to protecting your children 1)Learn the facts 2)Minimize opportunity3)Talk about it 4) Recognize the signs 5) React responsibly. The Statistics show that 1 in 10 children experience child sexual abuse before their 18th birthday. Child sexual abuse is a community wide problem and is a complex problem. The research shows that 90% are abused by people they know and trust. Only 10% are strangers Our goal is to raise awareness and to educate adults on how to prevent recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. This program has been approved for 2 contact hours of continuing education by the NASW and NBCC.
