4 Pillars for a Sustainable School System

Detroit Youth Report s Detroit Life Coalition (referred to as the DLC ) will host an exclusive conversation with educators parents and concerned citizens at Adams Butzel Recreation Complex 10500 Lyndon St Detroit MI 48238. The event takes place on Saturday June 14 2014 from 11a.m to 1p.m. The 4 Pillars for a SustainableSchool System Meeting is free with registration. During the 4 Pillars for a SustainableSchool System Meeting the Detroit Life Coalition will briefly highlight how inequitable policies and poor citizen engagement are significant factors that has led to the dismantling of public education. The Sustainable School Success Model which was originally developed by Communities for Excellent Public Schools represents a more targeted community-based and community-informed method of improving school quality. At this meeting the Detroit Life Coalition will introduce these proven methods for increasing opportunity for Detroit students parents and educators. Implementing the Sustainable School Success Model will allow us to mend the bridges between Detroit students parents educators and community organizations while at the same time giving us the opportunity to reestablish a true community-engaged school system says Kamau Kheperu of the Detroit Life Coalition. The 4 pillars of SustainableSchool Success focus on A strong focus on school culture curriculum and staffing Wrap-around supports for every child Real collaboration with the community to ensure local ownership and accountability. Implement research-based instructional and educational reforms Guests will discuss strategy implementation plans in the Metro-Detroit area of the 4 Pillars for a SustainableSchool System. In addition guest will be informed that the 4 Pillars for a SustainableSchool System is part of a national campaign lead by the Journey for Justice Alliance.
