Category Education Description Hours Part Time potentially becoming Full Time. Position begins June 30th. General Responsibilities This employee is responsible for planning implementing and teaching advanced level ESOL to adult learners who are transitioning to college. The ESOL Teacher provides specialized instruction for the purposes of developing the students ability to effectively perform courses of study in English and acquire the English language needed to be accepted and succeed in college or a specialized training program. Job Responsibilities Teach Advanced level ESOL to adults of diverse linguistic cultural religious socio-economic and educational backgrounds. Help prepare students for the requirements of college coursework. Survey and incorporate adult learner goals into coursework for a student-centered goal-oriented participatory ESOL class which includes college and personal readiness Review and track goals and achievements with students and maintain student portfolios documenting progress Collaborate with Career Counselor to ensure that all students are progressing. Identify students who need extra support meeting their educational and career goals Outline teacher and program expectations to the students clearly at the beginning of each new cycle Prepare and deliver engaging learner-centered lessons Integrate pre-college reading writing pronunciation grammar speaking and listening skills into the curriculum Work with the Director Career Counselor Job Developer and other teachers to assess ongoing curriculum development and modify as needed Conduct student assessments and progress reports at regularly scheduled intervals to evaluate progress Communicate classroom student issues to Program Director in timely manner Description of Administration Keep attendance records Attend regular staff meetings Assist with intake evaluations and assessments Assist with curriculum development Participate in staff development Position Requirements BA or Master s degree in ESOL Education or related field Experience with ADVANCED LEVEL ESOL students who are transitioning to college or training programs Experience with curriculum development Familiarity with learner-centered goal-oriented participatory ESOL Sensitive to socio-economic and ethnic minority issues Strong communication and inter-personal skills Able to work independently and as part of a team Computer proficiency (i.e. Microsoft Office Navigating Internet including ESL websites) Full-Time Part-Time Full-Time and or Part-Time Shift -not applicable- Close Date Exempt Non-Exempt Non-Exempt Location YMCA Education & Training About the Organization The YMCA mission is dedicated to improving the health of mind body and spirit of individuals and families in our communities.
