Extension Assistant - Turfgrass

The person in this position will be responsible for conducting extension educational programming for the professional commercial turfgrass industry and extension educators working with industry personnel and home consumers developing extension education resources for the turfgrass industry and conducting sound research. This position is funded 1 year by grant funds. Continuation of the position is subject to the availability of funding need for the position and performance. Minimum qualifications B.S. degree in Horticulture Agronomy or Agricultural Engineering or a related field is required. Understanding of turfgrass culture management is required. Experience in operating research sprayer fertilizer spreaders and mowing equipment is required. Pesticide Applicator Certification in Core Turf & Ornamentals (category 3A) and Demonstration Research (category 10) or complete within 30 days of hire. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills understand and implement good science research and experimental design practices. Ability and desire to work flexible hours to accommodate extension programming and research activities. Must have completed or be willing to successfully complete the introductory turfgrass course within 12 months of hire and complete the advanced turfgrass management science course within 24 months.
