Faustus a talented doctor rails against the limits of human knowledge. She has learned everything she can learn or so she thinks from the conventional academic disciplines. All of these things have left her unsatisfied so now she turns to magic. A Good Angle and an Evil Angel arrive representing Faustus choice between Christian conscience and the path to damnation. The former advises her to leave off this pursuit of magic and the latter tempts her. From two fellow scholars Valdes and Cornelius Faustus learns the fundamentals of the black arts. She thrills at the power she will have and the great feats she ll perform. She summons the devil Mephistophilis. They flesh out the terms of their agreement with Mephistophilis representing Lucifer. Faustus will sell her soul in exchange for twenty-four years of power with Mephistophilis as servant to her every whim.
