Director of Child Development - Social Service Operations

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Initiatives and Impact and in accordance with the goals and objectives of the YMCA of Greater Boston the Director of Social Service Operations is responsible for all aspects of operations including quality standards outcomes and measurements staffing supervision program development community relations collaborations and financial results. Additionally the Social Services operator will be an expert in working with families to coordinate and plan programs activities and interventions that meet their social and emotional needs. Provides crisis intervention and assists families in understanding the implications and complexities of their specific situation and its impact on lifestyle. Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism positive attitude and proven ability to motivate and teach others. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects are necessary for the successful achievement of center-specific goals and strategic objectives. The Director of Operations ensures the connection of program activities to Y core focus areas of Healthy Living Youth Development and Social Responsibility while engaging children and families in a safe appropriate fun learning environment. Essential Responsibilities Oversees the hiring training and supervision of staff volunteers and interns and drives an effective performance management system. As Program Administrator 2 provides supervision to for social service interns educators and operations. Leads and facilitates relevant working group that uses quality standards to inform and enhance positive outcomes related to day-to-day operations of Association-wide social service operations. Works collaboratively with branch executives to develop and nurture community relationships with local school leadership and other key stakeholders invested in the care of our children. Provides expertise to both the Blueprint of Child Achievement Executives and the organization in the area of child development programs specifically in relation to the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) Common Core MA Curriculum Frameworks and the Department of Public Health (DPH) standards while meeting the needs of children and stakeholders. Researches recommends and identifies best practices that serve to meet more effectively participants needs and or heighten program quality. Works closely with Marketing to produce effective outreach strategies with the vision of attracting new participants from varied backgrounds ensures continuous communication with parents guardians. Models best-practices in working with individual youth and in leading groups with relation to both staff and participants. Develops and monitors budget with guidance from administration and monitors program spending accordingly. Implements human resource management practices in collaboration with HR to recruit and retain seasonal and year-round interns and volunteers. Works collaboratively with the Blueprint for Child Achievement s Executives and Operators to ensure program model and quality results are met and exceed baseline standards. Annually seeks and analyzes input from youth families and staff regarding the quality safety and enjoyment of the program and staff. Facilitates an association-wide working group to audit and recommend program best practices. Develops and directs high quality relationship-based member engagement strategies models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions with staff volunteers members families and the community. Position Requirements Education and Experience Master s degree in Social Work required. Ten or more years of experience in social work with children and families. Experience supervising interns directly within the social work field. Five or more years of management experience preferably in a YMCA or other not-for-profit agency specific experience supervising and mentoring other leaders of an organization. Advanced ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills. Ability to direct assigned operations including volunteer development supervision of staff development and monitoring of budgets marketing and public relations and program development management. Commitment to the philosophy and goals of the Y particularly those identified as outcomes for children participating in YMCA of Greater Boston Child Development programs. Effective written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to facilitate cross-team communication and processes. YMCA Team Leader or Multi-Team Branch Leader certification preferred. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand walk use hands handle or feel objects tools or controls talk and listen. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and the ability to adjust.
