1981 Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler. This outstanding classic Jeep is a complete frame-off restoration with performance enhancing upgrades including Howell TBI fuel injection HEI ignition wide track front rear axles Warn full-floating rear axle custom dash with VDO gauges and fold & tumble rear seat. Total restoration included stainless steel fasteners throughout fully coated frame with stainless brake lines body undercoated with LizardSkin and interior coated with grey Duraback liner. Inside includes Bestop TrailMax seats with rear fold & tumble seat. Custom dash includes full VDO instrumentation with speedo tach oil pressure water temp voltage fuel trans temp and amperage gauges. 258 in-line six cylinder engine is fully rebuilt and bored .010 over. Enhancements include Howell TBI fuel injection HEI ignition bomb-proof motor mounts AirRaid intake and dual electric cooling fans. Fully rebuilt TF-999 automatic transmission with separate cooler and column shift. Driveline TF-999 automatic transmission was rebuilt less than 6300 miles ago. All driveline bushings were replaced with polyurethane so they will last forever. The transfer case is the very popular super tough DANA 300 with new seals. The transmission engine and transfer case were all removed during the restoration and all parts completely overhauled cleaned and serviced. The Dana 300 is a 2-speed part time unit with 2.62 low range gear reduction. The 4-wheel drive system is part-time with lockable manual free-wheeling front hubs. Front Dana 30 is wide-trac version with all new Spicer Dana U-joints. Rear AMC 20 is also wide-trac version with Warn FULL-FLOATING rear axles and Warn Premium Hubs. Both the front and rear axles can be free-wheeling for easy towing. Both driveshafts have new Spicer Dana U-joints. Brakes Steering Cooling The ENTIRE brake system has been replaced with new parts including new front pads new front rotors and rear drums (NOT TURNED BUT NEW) rear shoes rear wheel cylinders new spring kits Brand new master cylinder and new power brake booster and all new lines. EVERY brake line was replaced with a complete STAINLESS STEEL brake line kit and to accommodate the suspension lift extended braided flexible stainless lines were used. Stainless hardware was used on the frame to mount the brake lines as well. FRONT DISC BRAKES AND POWER BRAKES The Jeep also features POWER STEERING with a new power steering pump and rebuilt steering gear box which turns the wheels with ease A new radiator with dual electric cooling fans was also added. Interior The interior has been completely redone with brand new grey Bestop TrailMax high-back bucket seats and a matching Tuffy locking center console. No rips stains or wear on the seats anywhere A Grant steering wheel is mounted on the tilt automatic shift column. The interior of the cab and pick-up bed have been fully lined with a tough Duraback grey bed-liner making it truly Jeep-Style when you go topless. Brand new heater control cables were added and the heat works very well A customized dash panel includes full VDO gauges including speedo tach oil pressure water temp volts fuel level trans temp and amperes. All the dash control knobs were replaced with billet aluminum units to get rid of the annoying stock knobs that always fall off. The heater core was also replaced and is fully functional. The glove box was replaced with a locking Tuffy glovebox with keys matching the center console. The windshield wipers system has been replaced with new WipeBoy wipers allowing the wiper arm to park level with the bottom of the windshield frame improving driver visibility. All the inner and outer weather-stripping and seals on the Wrangler style half doors were replaced with new. Exterior This Scrambler is painted in metallic blue with stainless brushed stainless and silver trim pieces. The windshield frame is a new dual-rib steel unit with new cowl seal windshield seal and window glass. The glass is perfect with no chips or cracks at all. Stainless steel hood latches cowl grill and hood footman loops were used. A new hidden radio antenna wiper arms headlamps and all new bulbs and mounting hardware were installed. A new wiper motor and blades were installed. The front and rear bumper are from Olympic and include hitch receivers both front and rear. The body and all panels are steel including an OEM gauge hood and the original tailgate with the embossed Jeep logo on it. New tailgate cables with new latches. NO FIBERGLASS PARTS ANYWHERE ON THIS JEEP. The fenders hood and grill were all painted separately inside and out.SEE PICS OF ENGINE COMPARTMENT. All the body panels were then re-assembled. The entire undercarriage was treated with an epoxy rust preventative primer and then sprayed with LizardSkin undercoating to prevent any corrosion. This 1981 model includes a Bestop grey bikini top and Bestop grey windbreaker. I m also including a grey CJ-7 soft top and soft upper doors (as seen in photos). The CJ-7 soft top can be modified to create a fastback soft top for the scrambler. A rear tonneau cover with velcro closure is also included. Suspension The suspension is a 4 Skyjacker Soft-Ride suspension lift that replaced all 4 leaf springs with heavy duty units. The shocks were also replaced with longer Rancho RS-9000 units and topped with red shock boots. New braided stainless lines were added to accommodate the lift. The shackles were also replaced with Genuine Steel heavy duty zirconium coated units and grade 5 hardware that provide 3 8 inch lift. New extended sway bar disconnect links with poly bushings and new sway bar polyurethane bushings were installed. Simply pull out the end-link pins and you get the ultimate off-road articulation needed when maneuvering down the trail. Polyurethane tie-rod end boots and new tie-rod ends were also added to get the slop out of the steering. A new drop pitman arm was installed to correct the steering geometry. To aid in bump-steer and drivability a Rancho steering stabilizer was added to the front. All the suspension shackle and body mount bushings on the entire Jeep were replaced with ENERGY SUSPENSION polyurethane. The axles include a wide-trac Dana 30 front and wide-trac rear AMC 20 with Warn FULL-FLOATING rear axles with Warn premium hubs. The axles were fully rebuilt with all new bearings and u-joints and have been serviced with fresh gear oil. The wheels are brand new American Racing AR23 15 x10 with 33 x12.50 Pro-Comp Mud Terrains.
