Fiber Splicer Essential Functions Responsible for successfully joining optical fibers through the use of a fusion splicer. Must have knowledge of networking fiber and copper. Attaining a low loss splice through a proficient cleave (cut) and splice is required. Responsible for the testing of fiber optic cable along with displaying and interpreting results for the purpose of analyzing and documenting fiber optic links. Ability to operate the following devices OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) - measures end-to-end loss point losses such as splices connectors and fiber breaks. Power Meter & Light Source - displays system loss over the fiber and both end connectors. Travel extensively in and out-of-state. Must be available for weekend night shifts on call duty emergency calls or on demand appointments as required or directed by Company representatives. Must be able to work a flexible schedule in order to meet customer demands schedule. Must have valid driver s license. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge Education Skills Experience Must be deadline driven with the ability to work as required to meet client s needs. 2-4 years of related experience. Must be able to use all types of common hand tools and splicing tools of the trade. Physical Requirements Must be able to stand walk and work on uneven ground for the full workday. Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Must have good eyesight and hearing capabilities. Must work outside in all types of weather conditions.
