Electrical Designer

Electrical Designer Position Overview Excel Personnel have been engaged to assist with the recruitment of a Mechanical Electrical Designer by our client who is an industry leader in construction and building solutions throughout Western Canada. Responsibilities Technical proficiency in specification and design of electrical systems preparing detailed design calculations and drawings without supervision. Including but not limited to power distribution (building and site) grounding lighting calculations lighting plans heat trace single line diagrams load calculations panel layouts voltage drop calculations transformer sizing fire alarm design low voltage systems communications and security structured cabling etc. Provide technical assistance and input on new proposals and contracts as required. Review and understand contract summaries of work with the ability to offer input into the creation of actionable design schedules. Create and check design information with consideration for accuracy completeness and adherence to client specifications ensuring compliance with applicable federal provincial and local regulations standards. Work with project teams and Project Managers to proactively support internal and external customers (Estimating Purchasing Manufacturing Transport and Site Works Field Services) to ensure successful project execution. Collaborate with external engineering partners and other personnel to resolve design challenges. Provide technical support to multiple manufacturing facilities and job sites. Work with purchasing and vendors to source review and specify equipment. Requirements Ability to read and create building specifications and detailed construction drawings. AutoCAD or other CAD software experience required working knowledge of AutoCAD Architecture and AutoCAD MEP would be an asset. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel Word Outlook etc.) Ability to work in a fast paced deadline driven environment. Exceptional time-management skills with the ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously. Results oriented and excellent interpersonal skills. 5 years of experience with wood-frame building technology relating to commercial industrial hospitality sectors. Willing to take direction as well as mentor others in the Design team in your area of expertise. Strong communication skills both verbal and written. Demonstrate values of safety teamwork accountability integrity and service. Good technical writing and computer skills. Able to work individually and as a team member. Attention to health safety of self and co-workers. Ability to work under pressure. Driven to learn and develop new skills. Analytical thorough resourceful and detail-oriented. Building Technology Diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution specializing in Mechanical Electrical or Architectural studies.
