Claims Examiner

The Interstate Family of Companies encompasses a worldwide group of transportation warehousing relocation management logistics and real estate solutions serving government corporate and individual clients. The Company maintains its headquarters in Springfield VA working with a global alliance of 1 500 service partners countries across six continents. Interstate is currently seeking an Administrative Assistant to join the Customer Service Claims Department. Candidates for this role should be self-motived have excellent problem solving skills and have strong communication abilities. Summary This position works under general supervision while conducting customer service activities. These activities primarily involve the receipt processing and resolution of household goods cargo claims and claim related matters filed by our customers. This position also backs up the Customer Service Manager whenever necessary and has claim approval authority. Each claim is handled in a prescribed manner which produces the least amount of stress and anxiety to the customer while minimizing financial risk to the company. This position works closely with other carriers service providers drivers and crews to correctly determine liability assessments and must be able to develop a working relationship with repair firms and military claims offices throughout the United States. All shipment and claim activity is entered and tracked utilizing an in-house information management system and database. This is a full time position and is evaluated weekly for production and quality standards. In addition to the job functions listed below this position may be required to participate in special projects and may involve working paid hours in excess of a normal 40-hour work week. Short trips within the local area for claim inspection purposes may be required from time to time. Responsibilities Initiate and follow up with tracing actions for missing items. Register claims received into the system. Prepare memorandums requesting service provider information and documentation concerning shipments with claims or potential claims. Arrange damage inspections and or repairs with qualified service vendors. Conduct driver check-in when drivers report to the department. Maintain overall control of overage items returned to this location. Give assistance and direction to customer requests in person by telephone or by mail. Assist delivery providers with quick settlements when necessary. Quick settlements can reduce further claims and significantly improve customer satisfaction. Adjudicate all claims and rebuttals. Determine carrier and service provider liability and charge accordingly. Prepare claim settlement and any offer in written format and submit to customer within prescribed time allotted. Process service provider rebuttals to claim liability assessments. Qualifications or Skills Required Must be customer service oriented have excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a dynamic fast paced environment. Minimum requirement in Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint of Beginner Level (Intermediate Level or higher preferred). Minimum keyboard skill level of 40 wpm. Ability to read and interpret documents such as client contracts military regulations and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Must possess the ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Must be able to compute rate ratio and percent. Must possess the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Must possess the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form. Must complete the AMSA Certified Claims Analyst course. Completion of the AMSA Advanced Certified Claims Analyst course is strongly encouraged. Education and or Experience One year certificate from college or technical school or three to six months related experience and or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
