Geographic Information System Specialist I-IV

The Geographic Information System Specialist is part of the department s GIS Services team and is responsible for the development implementation and support of the University s Geographic Information System which is used for tracking and managing OSU s Physical Resources across the OSU-System of campuses and state-wide research sites. Specific duties of the position are 1. GIS Systems Development and Support 2. GIS Database Support and Data Integration 3. Electronic Data Gathering Delivery Systems and Website Design and Maintenance and 4. Technical and User Support. This position periodically requires work after normal working hours. Majority of work is in a normal office environment. May work in construction areas with attendant dangers. May work in confined spaces requiring special care and possible use of protective clothing and breathing apparatus. Required qualifications Bachelor s Degree in Geography Engineering Computer Science Information Technology or related field and one year of experience using geographic information systems equipment software symbols and terminology to develop maps. Ability to gather an employ the use of zone maps quarter-section maps plat maps land use maps single line maps aerial maps CAD data survey data and map services within GIS map documents. Experience in researching procuring and deploying GIS data maintained and distributed by government agencies GIS clearing houses and other sources of GIS graphical and tabular data. Ability to add edit and maintain GIS features and feature attributes. Ability to use basic SQL for filtering data queries and building reports. Have before hire and maintain after hire a valid driver s license. Must be able to touch type for programming and data entry tasks. Must be proficient in using a whole range of GIS tools required to perform the work of adding editing and maintaining feature data contained within an enterprise GIS geodatabase. Must have good communication skills and an eye for detail. Must be able to review drawings and other data with a critical eye for the purpose of providing quality control for GIS maps and data generated and maintained by the department. Must be proficient in enterprise-class geodatabases and be able to participate in their maintenance. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to drive to and or walk to construction sites and traverse disrupted ground to assist in gathering site and utility information when necessary. Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (gloves safety glasses etc). Preferred qualifications Bachelor s Degree in Geography Engineering Computer Science Information Technology or related field Seven years of experience in GIS development and support--including but not limited to the development of GIS data models design development and management of enterprise-scale versioned SDE geodatabases the processing and deploying of aerial imagery using ESRI GIS tools and web-enabled map services the development of interactive web-based mapping and data solutions the provision of technical support for users and the development and guidance of data gathering and maintenance processes--or three years of the above-stated GIS experience and two years of experience in software development web development and the work of integrating data between multiple databases servers software systems. Expert knowledge and ability to develop and customize GIS functionality and web-based GIS related solutions using current software languages used in the development of GIS services including Python SQL HTML JavaScript PHP and .NET. Experience in web site design and integrating the delivery of database information via web-based solutions. Experience in programming and database administration. Experience in developing applying and supporting technology in the work of facilities management. Experience in planning organizing and coordinating shared data maintenance activities. Experience in recommending performing testing and leading the integration of GIS data databases with other data systems. Experience using and integrating third-party GIS CAFM and EDMS software including Latitude Geographics Geocortex Pictometry BlueCielo Meridian and Archibus. GISP certification. Skills in designing developing and deploying GIS data models and GIS databases. Proficiencies in developing configuring and delivering GIS map services for use in desktop and Web-based solutions and interfaces. Demonstrated skills knowledge of writing and manipulating SQL queries and scripts. Proficiencies in using configuring and supporting staff use of ESRI GIS software including ArcMap ArcGIS Server ArcCatalog and ArcGIS Administrator. Skills in training and directing others involved in system planning development and maintenance. Knowledge of configuring setting up translations between varying geographic datums. Knowledge in the integration of GIS Map Services with data from multiple databases servers software systems containing facilities property and space management records and equipment utility systems infrastructure data. Knowledge of the use of CAD-based or CAD-integrated applications in the workflows of mapping and GIS feature data maintenance.
