Position DeckhandLocation Bering Sea Pacific Ocean Gulf of Alaska Aleutian Islands Overview Deckhands work aboard at-sea processing vessels in the Bering Sea Pacific Ocean Gulf of Alaska and Aleutian Islands. They perform all functions of Factory Trawler deck operations including gear work and safety under direct supervision of the Bosun or Master.Duties and Responsibilities Signals workers such as Combis to move hoist or position nets and equipment safely as required to haul and set fishing gear and equipment Attaches slings hooks and other lifting devices to cables trawl equipment and nets as required to safely haul empty repair and set fishing gear at sea in all weather conditions Operate cranes winches or other lifting equipment to bring aboard and move equipment on deck as necessary Trains Combi personnel in safe and efficient deck operation procedures Operates skiff to transport crew supplies or equipment at sea or in port Makes repairs and adjustments fishing gear and equipment to and other trawler deck equipment as needed Secures and removes vessels docking lines to and from docks and other vessels Participates as member of fire and safety team in emergency situation Works up to 4 hours day in the factory or more as needed Skills and Abilities Required Must have previous experience working on a factory trawler in Alaska Must have 1 year of experience working on deck Variable schedule normally works 16 hours day beginning and ending at any time of day or night Understand instructions and safety rules in English Board and exit vessel without assistance by climbing up and down a gangway or Jacob s ladder Capable of climbing and descending steep stairs and vertical ladders Be away from medical attention for up to 3 months Repeatedly lift and carry up to 50 pounds Share spaces with others including crew quarters dining areas and bathrooms Compensation Free Room and Board Eligible for 401K Health Dental benefits once eligibility requirements are met Crew share based To Apply s glacierfish.applicantpro.com jobs 664043.html
