GENERAL PURPOSEUnder general supervision performs certified welding operations primarily in the repair of product castings. Follows customer and quality department welding standards as well as all safety and operating procedures.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Works from shop orders specifications and other instructions as to rod type and amount of weld to be applied. Plans operation sequence to preheat parts clean and prepare area apply and finish weld to repair cracks non- fills pit marks slag holes or other defects or to apply metal for machining operations. Selects and sets currents determines rod size selects electrode and determines other variables according to individual job requirements. Exercises care to obtain proper penetration avoid burring slag inclusion or other flaws. Some alloying of metals involved to obtain proper material strength. Perform necessary routing and cleaning of defective areas prior to welding. Also grinds and blends after welding to meet blueprint specifications. Perform visual and dimensional inspection of castings per part grade levels. Inspects own parts for surface distortion and imperfections such as warping cracks non-fill and porous condition. Meets all production and quality standards. Maintains all required records and reports of work performed. Checks paperwork for completeness including weld maps Detects and reports improper operation defective materials and unusual conditions to proper supervision. Must know how to look up and understand customer weld requirements prior to initiating repair work. Must know and follow all departmental and company safety rules. OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Instructs others in welding techniques. Acts as overview on weld wire stock. Develops instructions and approval for new work variations set-up and welding difficulties. Complies with written or verbal instructions or orders of supervisor or designated representative. Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Demonstrate the ability to use the production computer system to log on extract information log time enter inventory amount and forward to next operation. Ensures that documentation tooling and parts are correctly matched to paperwork. Disposes of work as required. Performs other functions as necessary or as assigned. NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS Interacts daily with supervisor and lead in the plant to discuss and resolve product issues and business matters. Interacts occasionally with maintenance in the plant to discuss equipment concerns. Interacts occasionally with engineers quality customer service and others in the plant to discuss product issues. TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Knowledge of tig welding techniques and requirements for various steel and aluminum alloys. Working knowledge of fixturing and weld set up parameters. Able to use conventional and precision measuring instruments. Able to read and interpret blueprints and specifications regarding parts. Able to read analyze and interpret technical procedures. Able to write reports and business correspondence. (Customer specifications weld maps part serialization weld techniques weld restrictions document weld size and restrictions and general weld information.) Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. Able to meet individual productivity requirements. Able to meet internal quality requirements. Complies with company and departmental policies and procedures including company s attendance policy. Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing read follow and interpret instructions on technique cards code sheets. Able to communicate effectively with co-workers. Must be able to occasionally move objects of 50 lbs. and frequently move objects of 10-15 lbs. Specific vision abilities include Near vision requirement is Jaeger J1 in one eye at no less than 12 inches or equivalent AND Jaeger J2 in one eye at no less than 16 inches.
