The Department of Animal Science at Oklahoma State University is seeking applicants for an 11-month tenure-track position (75% Extension - 25% Research) in the field of ruminant nutrition specifically focusing on the stocker receiving and finishing phases of beef production. This position carries the expectation for excellence in Extension programing and research productivity commensurate with the land grant mission of Oklahoma State University. Extension responsibilities will include supporting current Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service educational efforts while working closely with county area and state Extension personnel along with key progressive beef cattle producers to develop programing which meets educational needs of stakeholders and clientele within the state and across the nation. This programing should include but not be limited to improving the production efficiency profitability and quality of beef production. In addition the individual in this position will be expected to develop an internationally recognized research program and contribute to the existing research strengths of the department. Opportunities for independent and collaborative research include but are not limited to cattle management nutritional physiology applied ruminant nutrition animal health and wellbeing growth and metabolism or any other relevant and fundable areas of beef cattle production. The successful candidate will seek and secure extramural funding in support of a multidisciplinary research program in collaboration with other faculty in the Department the Division and the University. Departmental research resources relevant to this position include access to the Willard Sparks Beef Research Center with 24 Insentec individual feed intake units and 1 000 head feeding capacity native and cool season stocker units 2 respiration calorimeters and laboratory space and equipment. An additional 20 Insentec individual feed intake units and a new nutrition and physiology metabolism research center are in the developmental stages. Collaboration opportunities exist within the University with nearby Langston University and with USDA-ARS research facilities among others. Position is available May 1 2018 or as soon thereafter as an outstanding candidate is available. Continuation of this position is subject to performance and need.
