Position Responsibilities for Fair Housing Counselor Fair Housing Counselor ActivitiesThe fair housing counselor will be available to families at CSA San Diego County office to provide counseling individual casework and referral to conflict resolution. Additionally the fair housing counselor will lead a number of workshops at key community events to provide additional accessibility and education for residents landlords tenant advocates and government and social service agencies. By increasing the availability of accurate information promoting legal counsel and involving the city in addressing fair housing problems complaints will be accepted and investigated. We will complete alleged housing discrimination cases based on federal state and local fair housing laws. In order to achieve the outcomes the fair housing counselor will Maintain telephone hotline and provide education to callers and walk-in clients on all fair housing and housing discrimination related matters including fair housing laws rights and responsibilities complaint investigation services. 2. Complete case management and follow-up for each case which may require field visits for witness interviews research and provide documentation.3. All incoming calls and walk-in requests for information must have through client information with date name address zip code city council district problem action or referral. This will also include demographic data pertaining to race ethnicity income household size and ages and other information requested by the city.4. Sponsor seminars workshops and education events to landlords property managers tenant advocates real estate agents banks homebuyer educators and the public on tenants and fair housing rights.5. Provide tracking of repeat fair housing violators and keep statistics to permit analyses of housing discrimination complaints and trends.6. Provide activities that will include periodic public service announcements and news releases and press conferences about case settlements.7. Create collaborative trainings and presentations with the City of San Diego and CDBG programs.8. Attend monthly city and advocacy housing meetings to advocate for fair housing.9. Prepare necessary reports and refer cases to HUD DFEH Legal Aid or private attorney to initiate litigation.The proposed project outcomes for this grant are l. To provide community education on all fair housing and housing discrimination related matters including fair housing laws rights and responsibilities.2. To thoroughly document all fair housing complaints that leads to investigation court intervention mediation and litigation.3. To increase the dialogue and collaboration amongst housing entities and organizations in an effort to better serve the community and reduce fair housing discrimination and violations.4. Provide outreach to provide a safe and reliable opportunity for tenants and landlords with a goal of creating a positive resolution for all parties by decreasing the disputes through one-on one meetings and referrals. B. Knowledge Abilities and Skills1 Excellent verbal and written communication skills2. BA BS or equivalent experience3. Ability to work effectively with a range of diverse clients and staff4.
