Academic Advisor

Serve as an integral member of a team that provides academic advising orientation and support to students in the College of Engineering Architecture and Technology. Assist in providing direction to students regarding academic programs course sequence prerequisites and degree progress. Advisors serve as ombudsperson for OSU and CEAT resources as they facilitate student academic success acclimate them to university life inform them of opportunities enhance internship and career opportunities and mentor them in addressing related personal challenges and concerns. Advisors inform students of academic requirements policies and procedures and ensure compliance. Advisors maintain office hours consistent with advising and mentoring demands particularly during heavy enrollment periods and demonstrate clear knowledge of the duties and responsibilities necessary to successfully perform associated tasks. Utilize the Career Development Plan to hire for the position. Opportunity of advancement. Occasionally work evenings and weekends for special events and graduation. Minimum qualifications Bachelor s degree and two years experience in a related setting. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills the ability to multi-task prioritize and manage projected deadlines. Possess a positive attitude good communications skills and a desire to assist students in achieving success while at OSU and beyond. Demonstrate creativity and initiative and be a proactive participant in a team environment. Very proficient in Microsoft Office specifically Excel and Word. Manage confidential information appropriately. Will need to ability to know or learn to utilize Student Information System and other programs used to assist with student enrollment and advisement processes. Must be service oriented and able to work with a diverse group of faculty staff students and the general public in a positive manner at all times. Promote effective and collaborative work habits and be an active participant in a collaborative work environment. Preferred qualifications Master s degree. A graduate degree in Higher Education Academic Counseling or Advising or related field an undergraduate degree in Engineering Architecture or Engineering Technology professional experience as an academic adviser or in an industry closely related to CEAT majors.
