The Department of Wellness is now seeking an experienced professional to lead its Fitness team in the position of Assistant Director of Fitness at Oklahoma State University. Our fitness program is one of the largest in the country with over 110 group fitness classes offered per week and a personal training staff of over 35 trainers. Our facilities include more than 350 000 square feet including indoor outdoor pools cardio fitness rooms weight rooms multipurpose rooms performance studio indoor track climbing bouldering walls and over 50 acres of outdoor sports field. Oversee the day to day operations of the Department of Wellness fitness program including Personal Training Group Fitness Specialty Small Group Training and fitness specific special events. Develop plan execute and supervise all special programs and fitness specific events each year to include setting price points for various PT packages and registration for events. Supervision to include hiring training scheduling and evaluation of one (1) Fitness Coordinator two (2) Graduate Assistants of Fitness oversight of student personal trainers group fitness instructors and student fitness associates. Facilitate all staff meetings and associated staff trainings. Provide continuing education to staff. Develop and implement rules and procedures for fitness area conduct. Oversee the supervision of the weight training and cardio areas of both the Colvin Recreation Center and Seretean Wellness Center. Facilitate the Fitness on the Go program ensuring that appropriate spaces are reserved instructors are scheduled and have the right equipment and follow-up on billing for the class. Responsible for the development and maintenance of annual operating budget for programs. Purchase and maintain all equipment for programs. Assess programs and develop strategy for future programming. Responsible for reserving space for classes publication of schedules dissemination of information to marketing. Oversee the registration and instruction of personal training instruction courses. Create and develop training materials for all staff. Organize and host continuing education workshops and on-site certification workshops. Oversee entering of biweekly payroll for Fitness positions in the time and attendance software system. Approve Personal Trainer payroll. Track unique participation and total participations in all programs. Provide usage and expense reports as requested to the Associate Director. Prepare annual reports for Associate Director. Work in collaboration with the facility staff to ensure adequate cleaning schedules and that all equipment issues are reported to the Equipment Technician in a timely and efficient manner. Serve as the department contact for all fitness equipment vendors preparing specifications and purchasing bids for new cardio and strength equipment in Department of Wellness facilities. Train staff to perform fitness orientations on any piece of equipment on demand. Work in conjunction with Associate Director and facility staff on fitness area layouts and make changes periodically. Position is an integral part of the department leadership team collaborating with fellow Assistant Directors and senior leadership to advance student development and recreational programming while adhering to departmental core values. Other duties and campus committee work as assigned. Responsibility may require working evenings or weekends in order to accomplish departmental goals. May be required to work with strength training equipment. Required qualifications Bachelor s degree in Exercise Science Kinesiology Recreation Management Health Promotion or related field and two years professional full-time experience administrating a large fitness program. Two years of a graduate assistantship will be considered equivalent to one year of professional experience. Group fitness certification and or personal training certification received through a national certifying agency (ACE ACSM etc.) Member in NIRSA. Interpersonal skills necessary to interview hire supervise and evaluate instructors and trainers. Must have demonstrated proficiency in mentoring and training of staff. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. May be required to lift 50-75 lbs. Preferred qualifications Master s degree and three to five years full-time experience administrating a fitness program housed within a collegiate recreational services setting strongly preferred. Previous experience supervising at least one full-time professional staff member. Current CPR AED Instructor. Experience instructing a variety of fitness classes (e.g. Yoga Zumba Strength and Conditioning Bootcamps HIIT Cycling etc.) One or more specialty certifications (Les Mills USAW CSCS Beachbody etc.). Experience developing a large budget dependent upon revenue generation. Experience supervising large staffs. A strong background in risk management especially as it relates to fitness and wellness programs is preferred. Experience working with fitness vendors and equipment purchasing. Involvement within NIRSA. Current CPR AED certification. Experience managing a large budget dependent upon revenue generation.
