NEW HIGHER SALARY 38 516 - 67 404 The ChallengeWe are looking for a skilled Engineering Technician to join our Halifax County District 1 team as a project inspector on roadway and structure projects. In this role you will Support senior technicians and engineers in the administration of construction contracts and District Office duties. Monitor contractor s daily operations to ensure compliance with contracts plans and specifications. Observe and document contractor s operations make measurements and calculations of pay quantities and perform standardized material sampling and testing. Coordinate reviews of technical plans and drawings relating to driveway permit applications utility encroachment requests subdivision design standards and road addition packages. Ensure compliance with NCDOT and external environmental agency erosion control and permit requirements. Keep daily inspector diaries on project operations complete material reports including materials received document pay records perform construction calculations and computer iPad data and record entry. What You BringBasic knowledge conducting routine inspections for compliance with contract agreements standards codes and specifications. Experience planning developing scheduling tracking and completing projects independently or with limited supervision. Experience reading interpreting construction plans standards and specifications. Experience performing math functions including algebra geometry and trigonometry. Experience maintaining neat legible and accurate records and reports including computer iPad date entry. Good communications skills to communicate effectively with co-workers contractors and the public. Computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook) and using iPads tablets HiCAMS and SharePlus SharePoint. Ability to make independent decisions using sound engineering judgment. You can apply NCDOT safety standards and programs to operations. Ability to obtain and maintain certifications for material sampling and testing. You can work independently or as part of a larger team of NCDOT employees and consultant inspectors. Ability to safely drive a State vehicle. Safety toe shoes. Education & ExperienceAssociate s degree in Civil Engineering Technology Survey Technology or a related field and 2 years relevant technician-level experience or An equivalent combination of training and experience. NotesYou may be exposed to hazards including construction equipment high traffic volumes and heights over water or traffic. You will be working outside in varying temperatures and weather conditions and will be expected to perform moderate physical activity such as standing walking climbing kneeling and lifting up to 50 pounds. You may be required to work nights weekends holidays and extended hours as required by project workload staffing requirements on any assigned Division 4 project.
