NEW HIGHER SALARY 38 516 - 67 404 The ChallengeWe are looking for an experienced Engineering Technician II to join our Highway Construction team. In this role you will Serve as a project roadway structure inspector supporting senior engineers in the administration of highway construction contracts. Monitor contractor s daily operations to ensure compliance with contracts plans and specifications. Work with other technicians including NCDOT staff and contract construction inspectors. Resolve daily constructability issues and troubleshoot problems to mitigate delays to contractor progress. Monitor utility relocation efforts by providing survey alignment layout of proposed roadway structure improvements daily inspecting and tracking relocation work. Anticipate contract problems and advise supervisor of need for plan revisions supplemental agreements or other contract adjustments to improve safety timely delivery and or quality of delivered product. Monitor contractor operations to ensure compliance with specifications plans contractual provisions subcontractor agreements and contract Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) requirements. Ensure compliance with NC Sedimentation and Pollution Control Act and that all work performed in permitted areas is done in accordance with permits. Effectively communicate and coordinate work with contractors subcontractors utility owners and property owners to minimize delays and disturbances while maximizing project progress. Serve as survey crew member. Assist with project stakeouts. What You BringKnowledge and understanding of NCDOT highway and bridge construction. Ability to understand contracts plans standards and specifications. Experience maintaining neat and legible records and reports including computer iPad data entry. Computer skills in laptops software and math functions. Knowledge and understanding of general concepts practices and theories used in construction inspection and surveying. Ability to use a calculator to perform basic math calculations. Ability to establish and maintain positive communication between technicians engineers contractors and the public. Solid communications skills to effectively communicate in a clear concise organized and persuasive manner. Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights highway traffic and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction. Fitness to perform moderate physical activity including walking climbing balancing kneeling and standing. Strength to lift 50 pounds. Ability to work nights and weekends as required. Education & ExperienceAssociate s degree in Civil Engineering Technology Survey Technology or a related field and 2 years relevant technician-level experience or An equivalent combination of training and experience.
