NEW HIGHER SALARY 35 788 - 62 628 The ChallengeWe are looking for 2 experienced Transportation Worker IV s to join our Durham County Maintenance team. In this role you will Perform a wide range of maintenance tasks in preventive maintenance repair and construction of state-maintained roads. Install traffic & erosion control devices. Clear rights of way. Perform roadway grading and machining of unpaved roads. Do pavement repair pipe installation and other drainage tasks. Inspect contract work and monitor manual tasks. Operate equipment including bulldozers excavators backhoes skid steers tandem dump trucks front end loaders tractor trailers motor graders rollers and other heavy equipment. What You BringKnowledge of Intermediate Work Zone Safety & NCDOT Workplace Safety policy and practices. Experience in 1 of the following shoulder and ditch maintenance pipe installation or asphalt patching. Demonstrated ability to supervise and train others in equipment operations and direct the daily activities of a work crew. Experience in snow and ice removal operations. Experience operating at 2 pieces of the following equipment backhoe tandem dump truck motor grader front end loader forklift force feed loader asphalt distributor crack sealing machine track excavator skid steer or sweeper. Working knowledge of the principles involved in the operation and use of the equipment. Ability to perform tasks and to follow verbal and written instructions as directed by supervisor. Strength to repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds. Agility to climb bend and traverse steep and uneven terrain. Able to work in extreme temperature conditions. A Class A Commercial Driver s License with N endorsement required. (Don t have it Still apply You can get it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire ) Safety toe shoes. NotesYou will be involved in emergency response including traffic accident clean-up snow and ice removal and other emergencies as they occur. This role is subject to emergency call back and scheduled night work during adverse weather or other extreme circumstances. We may require work during non-traditional work hours including nights weekends and holidays. A pre-employment drug testing is required and we will do a background check of your employers for the past 3 years for controlled substances alcohol testing.
