NEW HIGHER SALARY 65 876 - 115 283 The ChallengeWe are looking for a senior engineer to join our Hydraulics team that provides technical expertise guidance design and quality assurance to manage stormwater riverine and coastal impacts in and around roadways for the protection of the public environment and NC assets at every transportation project phase. In this role you will work independently to Provide expertise and assistance including training and guidance in advanced hydrologic analyses including complex- steady- and unsteady-state hydraulic modeling. Provide support and guidance related to NCDOT s compliance with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and NCDOT s Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with NC Department of Public Safety - Division of Emergency Management (NCEM) implemented through the NC Floodplain Mapping Program. Use and develop engineering tools and resources to assist NCDOT and NCEM staff during extreme weather events and assist with recovery efforts following extreme weather events. Develop scope support and review hydrologic hydraulic (H& H) studies for NCDOT transportation facilities and ensure compliance with applicable laws standards associated with National Floodplain Insurance Program and NCDOT standards. Provide input and expertise for the resilience program and assist our managers in developing guidance and policies related to hydraulic risk and resilience. Administer multiple activities and direct resources to meet NCDOT goals. Apply sound engineering principles to complex design situations to make recommendations and decisions with consideration of risk assessment performance standards and cost benefit analysis. What You BringExperience using advanced hydrologic hydraulic design practices and complex riverine modeling techniques bridge scour assessments and sediment transport modeling. Knowledge of FEMA regulations and NC regulations related to floodplain management ordinances. Computer skills using hydrology applications such as USACE HEC-1 & HEC-HMS (hydrologic models) HEC-2 & HEC-RAS 1D& 2D steady & unsteady flow (hydraulic models) and SRH-2D with Surface-water Modeling System (SMS by Aquaveo) Microsoft Office SharePoint ArcGIS web-based GIS applications and or Bentley MicroStation ORD. Experience analyzing natural hazards risk and providing sound engineering recommendations and reports describing mitigation strategies. Knowledge of FHWA and AASHTO guidelines NCDOT s highway development process and NCDOT Guidelines for Drainage Studies. Excellent verbal and written communications skills to work with NCDOT units external customers (such as resource agencies) and contractors and with the public regarding NCDOT program elements and engineering guidance. NotesOccasional overnight travel is required. Field work may require climbing steep terrain thick undergrowth working around open water near traffic and in adverse weather conditions. You will be required to work overtime during extreme weather events. We may require you to be registered as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. Management prefers candidates familiar and proficient with watershed-scale H& H experience such as rain-on-grid hydraulic modeling National Weather Model (NWM) web application experience and experience with NCFMP s Flood Risk Information System (FRIS) and Flood Inundation and Mapping Alert Network (FIMAN) and GIS analytics. Education and ExperienceBachelor s degree in engineering and 4 years of relevant experience or An equivalent combination of education and experience.
