At a height of 6, 200 feet, to the north of Mammoth Hot Springs, Mammoth Campground is Yellowstone s sole year-round camping option (the others open and reopen with the seasons). With its location just south of the park s northern entrance in Gardiner, Montana, the area s 85 campsites are convenient for visitors. The campsite is presently closed due to major flood damage in June of 2022. However, the lodge and hotel in the region have started reopening, so the campsite may be next. Campers enjoy the close vicinity to fishing, hiking, hot springs, and mobile phone connection in this high sagebrush steppe setting replete with juniper and Douglas fir trees. Wild animals, such as elk and bison, are often seen in the area.
