This is a KJV Bible study guide on Godly wisdom understanding and knowledge. Proverbs 1 7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge but fools despise wisdom and instruction.Proverbs 1 23 Turn you at my reproof behold I will pour out my spirit unto you I will make known my words unto you.Proverbs 2 1 My son if thou wilt receive my words and hide my commandments with thee Proverbs 2 2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom and apply thine heart to understanding Proverbs 2 3 Yea if thou criest after knowledge and liftest up thy voice for understanding Proverbs 2 4 If thou seekest her as silver and searchest for her as for hid treasures Proverbs 2 5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. [The word fear in Proverbs 1 7 above actually means to reverance the LORD don t be a fool. The phrase If thou wilt in Proverbs 2 1 is conditional in other words each individual (that includes you) has to take action. Do you want to find the knowledge and wisdom of God Seek it according to what is written in verses 1 through 6 of Proverbs 2. Chapters 1 through 5 of Proverbs are very informative as well. Where do you seek it [Godly wisdom knowledge and understanding] In His word the Bible (John 17 17). Where else will you find it What happens to those that never look for knowledge of God You can t find something you never look for]. James 1 5 If any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not and it shall be given him. [If you truly want more wisdom just ask God for it (you have to take action you have to seek see Proverbs 2 4). What kind of wisdom will God give you Not earthly wisdom. See Psalm 119 18 and Jeremiah 33 2-3 also]. James 3 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure then peaceable gentle and easy to be intreated full of mercy and good fruits without partiality and without hypocrisy. [Godly wisdom traits] pure (nothing about it is evil) peaceable (it is not full of strife not argumentative not easy to anger) gentle (it helps one to become wise as the serpent but gentle as the dove) easy to be intreated (God s wisdom is easy to be asked for He gives to all who ask) full of mercy and good fruits (it is full of love and will cause one to do good deeds only) without partiality (it is not a respecter of persons it doesn t discriminate for any reason) without hypocrisy (it doesn t cause one to act like they are better than anyone else). Where does earthly wisdom come from James 3 15 This wisdom descendeth not from above but is earthly sensual devilish. [See 1 Corinthians 1 19-20 what does God do to the wisdom of this world] [Study suggestions Seek and ye shall find] First and foremost reading the [Bible] is not like reading a novel The Scriptures are not to be read speedily but slowly in order to study each verse and grasp its meaning The true seekers are those who will read the Scriptures slowly and deliberately to draw out the nourishment and gain a more complete picture and meaning. The hurried and impatient Readers in contrast are those who read the Scriptures partially and rapidly skimming over the surface not getting a clear and complete picture. Those in a hurry will not find the nourishment they need to overcome and will likely end up being deceived Keep seeking and studying the whole Bible patiently and diligently my friends.
