Zeal Passionate ardor in the pursuit of any thing. In general zeal is an eagerness of desire to accomplish or obtain some object and it may be manifested either in favor of any person or thing or in opposition to it and in a good or bad cause. All verses come from the KJV Bible. Zeal should characterize spiritual life.Romans 12 11 Not slothful in business fervent in spirit serving the Lord Zeal must be based on intelligent understanding.Romans 10 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God but not according to knowledge.(Paul knew what zeal they [Pharisees] had towards God but is was misdirected zeal and he was about to give them a wake up call.)Romans 10 3 For they being ignorant of God s righteousness and going about to establish their own righteousness have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.(Paul is saying here that they do not understand God s way of making them right with Himself. They keep refusing to accept God s way of doing things and keep following their own ways. Just as many do today following mans ways with their fancy rituals and traditions. But it looks so holy it must make us right with God. Hypocrites playing church. God doesn t like it. Christ spoke of this in the parable of the Pharisee and publican see Luke 18 9-14). Christ will make us full of zeal to do good.Titus 2 14 Who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto himself a peculiar people zealous of good works. Jesus cannot use us if we are complacent.Revelation3 15 I know thy works that thou art neither cold nor hot I would thou wert cold or hot.Revelation3 16 So then because thou art lukewarm and neither cold nor hot I will spue thee out of my mouth. Being zealous for God means we take part in suffering for His sake.Psalm 69 9 For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me. Zeal for God is being single-minded.James 4 8 Draw nigh to God and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands ye sinners and purify your hearts ye double minded. Be zealous and seek the salvation of souls in all that you do.Ecclesiastes 11 5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.Ecclesiastes 11 6 In the morning sow thy seed and in the evening withhold not thine hand for thou knowest not whether shall prosper either this or that or whether they both shall be alike good.
