NEW HIGHER SALARY 55 518 - 97 157 The ChallengeWe are looking for an experienced Safety Consultant to join our Division 7 Engineering team in Greensboro NC. In this role you will Lead field management and engineering control of all safety health and environmental elements of NCDOT operations. This includes all DOT facilities work sites and operations in Division 7 including Alamance Caswell Guilford Orange and Rockingham counties. Provide technical and regulatory assistance on interpretation of Federal State laws and recommendations to ensure NCDOT fully meets our responsibilities as an employer under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) of 1970. Assist with statewide efforts involving projects such as explosives hazardous materials management environmental spills asbestos or similar projects. Develop and present safety education on highly technical issues such as Hazard Communication or Excavation Trenching and Shoring. Deliver advanced technical and consultative work with responsibility for identifying trends and specific unsafe conditions and safety violations. Develop solutions and recommendations to correct problem areas. Help ensure enforcement of regulations in wide ranging and comprehensive safety and health hazardous materials management and emergency planning. Assess and develop safety engineering controls and designs. Perform incident investigations program auditing recordkeeping industrial hygiene surveys and monitoring. Review and evaluate existing health and safety or accident prevention training programs. Develop and provide safety training and education. Design and develop new programs as needed. Help lead emergency planning interpreting laws standards and codes and review and research new revised safety standards laws to determine their applicability. Investigate accidents determine causes and recommend develop and implement corrective actions. Provide supervisory responsibilities. What You BringConsiderable knowledge of OSHA regulations and federal state safety and health codes and security regulations and best management practices. Data analysis experience providing strategic direction addressing adverse trends with injuries security incidents or Worker Compensation. Basic intermediate computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint) and databases. Experience managing Safety program policies procedures and budgets. Sound knowledge of engineering principles and practices. Ability to understand interpret and apply directives laws rules and regulations from local state and federal agencies. Communication skills to express ideas clearly in written and verbal form including good presentation and training skills for groups of varying size and education levels. A good understanding of operations of heavy equipment and maintenance repair procedures. Ability to work independently analyze and evaluate work sites and processes for safety and health considerations. Experience to make decisions and judgments on safety issues and develop recommendations and design modifications. General knowledge of civil industrial mechanical electrical chemical and environmental and safety engineering as well as ergonomics fire protection and human factors. Knowledge of management sciences risk management loss control health sciences occupational medicine and industrial hygiene. A Driver s License. Good problem-solving skills and demonstrated leadership skills with a working knowledge of project management tools such as Logic diagrams Flow-charting Decision Sciences Risk analysis Pareto analysis Cause and effect diagrams Run charts Histograms Control charts Management PrefersCandidates with Experience working with silica in construction lead in construction hearing conservation fleet safety fall protection in construction hazard communication lock out tag out and employee action plans. OSHA-approved Construction Trainer and First Aid CPR Trainer. NoteYou must be capable of obtaining Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification within a year from hire. Education & ExperienceBachelor s degree in safety engineering industrial engineering industrial management or technology occupational safety or a physical science or equivalent technical degree and 3 years of progressive occupational and safety and health experience or An equivalent combination of education and experience.
