The PeopleReady located at Winnipeg Manitoba R3E 3H9 is currently hiring a Finishing Carpenter Job Description Once a house is framed and dried in with the roof windows and doors installed and all the plumbing wiring drywall and insulation are in place it s time to start finishing the interior. This is when a finish carpenter comes in. A finish carpenter is usually hired to fabricate and prepare for finishing various types of woods. Their work comes right at the end when the project has been completed and just requires finishing work. They make sure that the end product looks as good as it should and appears aesthetically pleasing - and in accordance with the clients requirements. Whereas framing carpenters or rough carpenters build the structures of a house and install exterior doors and windows finish carpenters focus on the numerous wood details that complete the interior of the home. They work alongside a number of tradespeople- all with individual areas of specialization- to finish an interior space. Finish carpentry includes interior trim and millwork such as baseboards stair railings crown molding and casing around doors and windows as well as cabinetry built in furniture and other wood details. Finish carpenters make sure that the doors and windows inside a house work properly and that all the final design features are harmonious together. Finish carpenters focus on making each individual detail look good but they also must consider the overall design of the house as they complete their work. Note - Pay Rate for this Job is 17.00 Hour to 35.00 Hour Shift Timing - All Available Responsibilities Gauge structures and furniture to decide what tasks need to be carried out for alteration or building work Study drawings blueprints and rough instructions to determine what kind of finishing work the project needs Prepare layouts by using rule framing squares and calipers Mark guidelines on materials Shape materials according to prescribed measurements using saws and planes Assemble materials and ensure that they are properly fastened together Assist in erecting framework for structures Cut openings for doors and windows Provide support for fitting and installing fabricated window frames doors and weather stripping Build repair and remove counters and cabinets Perform polishing work on wooden frames and surfaces Assist in building a variety of wood constructed items and modify and adapt to specific needs Design items on special requests such as bookcases cabinets and work counters to meet a variety of maintenance and facility needs Assist in installing wood built items such as partitions tables sewing cabinets and counters Shape materials to prescribed measurements and ensure that casework hardware is properly installed Install and repair trim on windows and baseboards Repair and improve the appearance of weathered wooden items and frames Building and installing cabinets such as kitchen cabinets and under - stair cabinets. Install wainscoting baseboards door trim and other final touches. Building and installing stair railings Installing interior doors such as pocket doors and checking that the doors are aligned correctly and open and close the way they should. Building shelves other storage solutions and furniture. Qualifications Finish carpenters must have a deep understanding of how to work with different materials (such as different kinds of wood) and different tools. They are experts at shaping and fitting things. They must also be adept at reading blueprints and following specific instructions because it s crucial that everything is measured cut and attached to exacting standards with very little margin of error. A finish carpenter needs to possess knowledge of common tools and equipment used in carpentry work along with ways of maintaining and repairing them.
