Since a volt-ohm-milliammeter (VOM) measures DC and AC voltage DC current and resistance values it is the most basic and most useful type of test measurement. We will find that a VOM can also measure impedance values indirectly. The field-effect transistor volt-ohm-milliammeter (FET VOM) has essentially the same functions as a VOM but provides greater sensitivity. However we will find that modern FET VOMs are comparatively refined instruments and they can sometimes tests the VOM cannot make.The most elaborate and costly measuring instrument would be utterly worthless if we did not know how to operate it and how to apply the instrument in practical situations. Therefore the purpose of this book is to explain in the clearest possible manner how VOMs and FET VOMs are operated and applied in the basic fields of component testing radio-receiver troubleshooting TV servicing procedures high-fidelity maintenance and troubleshooting. An explanation is given on how check and adjust Amateur and Citizens Band radio transmitters. Meter calibration and maintenance data are also noted in the earlier chapters. The development of the topics proceeds from the simplest and most basic applications to the more elaborate situations that will ordinarily confront the reader.To get the most out of this book the reader should make various tests and measurements so that he will get the feel of practical factors.
